Okay so no matter what you do you have to remember that there are different levels of pH for growth of whatever you want. Too high or too low of a pH level can and will effect your garden negatively, too low and it can slow your growth and too high will burn out your crop
.. meaning that it will kill your plants.

I find that the optimal pH level that works for basically everything out there is between 6.5 to 7.0 . This is where your water or nutrients are basically at what is called a natural or naturally based level, helping your crops take in all they need much easier.
If your growing hydroponically then you want your pH between 5.5-6.3 and no higher. Higher pH is not suggested for this type of growing medium... If your growing in a DWC (deep water culture), ebb and flow (also called flood and drain table) or even if your doing the kratky method of hydroponics (but more on that later.
There are kits you can get so you can test the pH levels of everything, your water, soil, nutes and so on.
I'd suggest that you get a two prong pH probe that also checks your moisture level and light levels. Kind of like a triple type meter. I'll explain that in a later post about lights.
The reason you want your plants to be able to take in the fertilizer, nutrients or whatever is so they can of course grow but at that level will make it the best for up take and that means bigger and better crops.
The graph is for cannabis/marijuana but works for everything I find.
Hope you enjoy your grow and take care of each other.
